In short

On most platforms, live streaming is paid for through virtual gifts. Viewers buy a platform currency and send it during the stream; the creator converts it into a balance and has it paid out.

Ad revenue and subscription models matter for large channels but are practically irrelevant for getting started, because they depend on reach or partner-program thresholds.

The deciding point when comparing platforms is therefore not the size of the revenue share but from when you are allowed to earn at all — and how fast and by which route you are paid out.

The four ways to make money with live streams

In practice there are only a manageable number of revenue sources. They differ mainly in how early they are open to you.

Possible immediately

Virtual gifts

Viewers buy coins and send gifts during the stream. The equivalent lands as a balance in the creator account and can be paid out. Works from the first viewer — which is why this model dominates live streaming apps.

Needs regular viewers

Subscriptions and memberships

Viewers pay monthly for perks such as badges, exclusive rooms or their own emotes. More reliable than gifts, but it presupposes an audience that already sees you regularly.

Needs reach

Ads and partner programs

Income from ad placements almost everywhere runs through a partner program with fixed entry criteria. Without that unlock you see none of it — no matter how good your stream is.

Platform-independent

Collaborations and affiliate

Product placements, discount codes, affiliate links. Here you negotiate directly and the platform doesn’t earn from it. For that you need a clearly recognisable niche, otherwise nobody finds you.

Why virtual gifts are the realistic way in

Anyone starting out has no regular audience and no reach. That is exactly why most monetisation plans fail at the starting line: subscriptions need returning viewers, ads need a partner program, collaborations need a niche. All three presuppose that you’re already where you want to go.

Gifts work differently. They are a single decision by a single viewer, in a single moment. That doesn’t need a follower count but a reason to give you something in that moment: a good answer, a song, a battle you’re supposed to win. That’s the lever you hold from the first stream.

The reverse also applies: gifts fluctuate. One good evening says nothing about the next. Anyone who wants to turn this into a reliable income needs fixed stream times so viewers know when to find you.

What you need before you start

A reliable time slot. Better three fixed evenings a week than seven irregular ones. Viewers come back when they know when you’re live. Irregularity costs more reach than a bad camera.

Sound before picture. Audiences forgive a bad picture, not bad sound. A simple headset or clip-on microphone does more than any lighting setup.

A format, not chance. “I’ll just go live” carries a few weeks. A recognisable format — music, talk, gaming, cooking, language exchange — gives viewers a reason to return and you a reason to keep going.

Clarity about payouts. Before you invest time: check from which amount payouts are made, which routes exist and how long it takes. That information should be openly on the platform and not only come on request.

The real hurdle: from when you’re allowed to earn

Most comparisons of streaming platforms revolve around the revenue share. For beginners that’s the wrong question. What matters is the threshold before it: many platforms only unlock monetisation once you reach a certain follower count, number of streaming hours or a partner status. Until then you stream for nothing — in exactly the phase where you put in the most effort and have the least audience.

That’s why the question is worth asking before choosing a platform: may I earn from the first stream, or am I first working towards an unlock? A high revenue share on a platform where you can’t monetise yet is, mathematically, zero.

How it works at elPortalO

elPortalO is a live streaming app for iOS and Android, developed in Germany. The model is the same as the big international apps — viewers buy coins and send gifts — but without the upstream hurdle:

No follower threshold before monetisation. You can receive gifts from the first live stream.

Video or audio. If you don’t want to be on camera, you can open audio-only rooms — for music, talk or language exchange.

PK battles. Two streams compete against each other, and viewers decide with gifts. It’s the fastest way to get in front of someone else’s audience.

Payout directly from the app. The balance is converted into euros and paid out by bank transfer or PayPal, from a fixed minimum amount. The conditions are openly in the app.

Agencies and host structures. Anyone who wants to build together with others finds ready-made structures with time tracking, roles and ranking.

Data processing in the EU. The platform is operated from Germany, not from Singapore or the US.

Note: income from live streaming is generally taxable, even when it arises on the side, and the rules depend on your country. What that means for your situation — small-business rules, business registration, VAT — is best clarified with a tax advisor. We are not tax advisors and don’t give advice on this.

Typical mistakes

Waiting for the big audience. In the first months it isn’t the viewer count that decides but how many out of ten viewers come back.

Only broadcasting, not reacting. Live streaming lives on viewers feeling seen. Read out names, answer questions, show reactions.

Streaming every day until nothing’s left. Staying power beats intensity. A plan you keep for six months is better than one month at full throttle.

Switching platform as soon as things stall. Every switch costs you the audience you already have. Switch for a reason, not out of frustration.

Reading the payout conditions only at the end. Minimum amounts, deadlines and routes belong checked before the first stream.

Frequently asked questions

<details>
Can you really make money with live streaming?

Yes, but not automatically and not immediately at an amount that replaces an income. Realistically, gifts are at first a side income that grows with the regularity of your streams and the size of your regular audience. How fast that goes depends on the format, the niche and the time you invest.
</details>
<details>
How many followers do you need to make money streaming?

That depends entirely on the platform. With models based on virtual gifts you don’t need a particular follower count but viewers who are present in the stream. Ad and partner programs, on the other hand, have fixed entry criteria you have to meet first. Check this point before choosing a platform.
</details>
<details>
How are virtual gifts converted into real money?

Viewers buy a platform currency and send gifts with it. On the creator side this becomes a balance that is converted into euros at a fixed rate and paid out from a minimum amount — usually by bank transfer or PayPal.
</details>
<details>
What is a PK battle and why is it worth it?

In a PK battle two streams compete against each other, and viewers decide with gifts who wins. For beginners it’s the fastest route to a new audience, because both groups of viewers come together during the battle.
</details>
<details>
Is an agency worth it for a streamer?

An agency can make sense if it offers real value in return: fixed contacts, help with building up, battles with other hosts, structure in stream times. It isn’t worth it if it only takes a cut. Before you sign, have them show you exactly what the agency provides and what obligations come with it.
</details>
<details>
Do I have to pay tax on live streaming income?

In most countries, yes. Income from live streaming is taxable, including when it’s a side activity. Which obligations arise concretely is a question for a tax advisor in your country — a general answer would be unserious.
</details>
<details>
Do I need expensive equipment to start?

No. A current smartphone is enough. The most worthwhile purchase is a decent microphone or headset, because bad sound drives viewers away faster than a bad picture. You can add light and camera later.
</details>
<details>
Which platform should I start on?

Decide on three points: whether you may monetise from the first stream, how and from which amount you’re paid out, and whether your format finds an audience there at all. The revenue share only matters after that.
</details>

The three types of karaoke apps

“Karaoke app” is a catch-all term for three things that have hardly anything to do with each other. Knowing that beforehand saves you two wrong installs.

1. Backing track with lyrics

Classic karaoke: the app plays the instrumental version, the lyrics scroll along and are highlighted. Meant for home, parties and practice. The song catalogue is the actual product — and usually the reason it costs money.

2. Record and share

You sing to a track, the app records, you trim and post. There are often duet functions where you add yourself to an existing recording. The audience only comes afterwards — if at all.

3. Live in front of an audience

No backing track, no scrolling text. You go live, and whoever comes in hears you at the moment you sing. Reactions, shout-outs and applause come immediately. In return there is no safety net.

Which one fits you?

You want …

Then you need …

To sing along at home or at a party

A backing-track app with a big song catalogue. Check which songs are included in the free part.

A recording you can post

A recording or duet app. The quality of the audio editing matters more here than the depth of the catalogue.

To train your voice

An app with pitch display and a practice mode. A backing track alone gives you no feedback.

Someone to really listen to you

A live app. There an audience forms that reacts — and, at best, comes back.

To earn something with your singing

A live app with a gift system. Recording apps generally pay nothing out.

The most honest shortcut: if something is missing when you sing at home, it’s usually not the next song in the catalogue but the reaction.

What you really need

For all three types the same order applies: sound before picture, stability before quality.

Headphones are a must. Without them the microphone picks up the backing track too, and an echo results. That’s the most common reason for recordings that sound unusable.

A simple microphone is enough. A headset or clip-on mic is the biggest audible jump. You don’t need a studio microphone at the start.

A quiet room instead of expensive tech. Textiles absorb reverb. A room with carpet and curtains sounds better than a tiled room with a good mic.

Stable internet if you go live. Upload is what matters. A stream that cuts out in the middle of the chorus costs you your listeners.

Battery and charging cable. Singing and streaming draw a lot of power. Sounds banal, but regularly ends performances.

Almost every karaoke app is free at first. The differences lie in what happens afterwards.

Catalogue subscriptions

Backing-track apps usually ask for a monthly or yearly subscription for the full song catalogue. Before you sign up, check whether the songs you want to sing are included at all — catalogues differ a lot.

Single purchases

Some apps sell songs individually. Pays off if you always sing the same five songs, and gets expensive if you browse.

Gifts instead of subscriptions

On live apps it works the other way round: singing and listening cost nothing, and money comes in through viewers’ virtual gifts. For you as a singer that’s income, not expense.

What you should look at in any case before paying: does the subscription renew automatically after the trial, and how do you cancel it? That isn’t in the app description but in the settings of your app store account.

Music rights: the point everyone overlooks

This is orientation, not legal advice — but it’s the point where most problems arise, and the rules differ by country.

Someone else’s song belongs to someone. If you sing a well-known song, it’s a cover version, and rights are attached to it. As long as you sing for yourself at home, nobody cares. As soon as you publish or broadcast live, they do.

A backing track from a karaoke app isn’t automatically free. That an app gives you the instrumental version doesn’t mean you may post the recording everywhere. The licence applies to use within that app.

What’s allowed on a platform is in its terms. Platforms regulate it differently. If you want to cover regularly, clarify this beforehand — at elPortalO the rules are in the terms of use (German) and the community guidelines.

The safe option remains your own material or music you hold the rights to. Anyone who sings their own songs doesn’t have this question at all.

Singing live instead of alone into your phone

This is where the disclosure belongs: this page comes from elPortalO, a live streaming app. So first, what we are not the right choice for.

When elPortalO doesn’t fit

We have no karaoke backing track and no scrolling lyrics. If you’re looking for an app that gives you the instrumental version of well-known songs and shows the text, take a classic karaoke app — that’s what it’s built for, and we aren’t.

Also, if you simply need a clean recording for social media, a recording app gets you there faster.

What elPortalO is made for

That someone listens while you sing. You go live with your phone, bring your own backing track or your instrument, and the chat shows immediately what lands. Whoever likes you sends a gift — that becomes a payout for you, from €25.

Download the app and set up a profile. Free for iOS and Android, no follower hurdle beforehand.

Prepare the tech. Headphones in, mic connected, phone set up, backing track ready.

Go live and announce what’s coming. Whoever comes in should know in ten seconds what you’re planning.

Keep going. Two fixed slots a week bring more than one perfect performance a month.

<details>
Which karaoke app is the best?

That depends on what you have in mind. <details>
Are there free karaoke apps?

Almost all are free to start. The full song catalogue is generally paid, either as a subscription or a single purchase. On live apps it’s the other way round: singing and listening cost nothing.
</details>
<details>
Do I need a microphone to sing karaoke?

Not necessarily — the phone microphone works. Headphones, however, are almost a must, otherwise the microphone picks up the backing track and an echo results. A simple headset is the cheapest audible quality jump.
</details>
<details>
Can you make money with karaoke apps?

With classic backing-track and recording apps, generally not. On live apps with a gift system, yes: viewers send virtual gifts that can be paid out. At elPortalO from €25.
</details>

As soon as you publish or broadcast, copyright applies, and what’s allowed is set by each platform in its terms. Clarify this before you cover regularly — this page doesn’t replace legal advice.
</details>
<details>
Does elPortalO have a karaoke function with lyrics?

No. elPortalO is a live streaming app without a backing-track catalogue and without scrolling lyrics. You bring your own music and sing live in front of an audience.
</details>
<details>
How many people listen the first time?

In the first streams typically zero to three. That’s normal and says nothing about your voice. What matters is whether the few people become regular listeners.
</details>

What Tango Live is

Tango started in 2009 as a messenger for video calls and text messages — long before live streaming was a genre of its own. The live section was added in 2017, and it shapes the app today: hosts broadcast from rooms, viewers watch, write in the chat and send gifts.

The second part of the app is private 1:1 video calls. Either you are connected with someone at random, or you start a private call with a host from within a live stream. This mix of public stream and private conversation sets Tango apart from pure streaming platforms.

Live streams

Public rooms with a host, chat and gifts. You swipe through the rooms like a feed.

1:1 video calls

Private conversations between two people, either by random match or directly with a host. Longer and private calls cost coins.

Gifts

Viewers send virtual gifts paid for with coins. The host sees who sent what.

How to install Tango

In most countries the installation is straightforward: on iPhone you get Tango from the Apple App Store, on Android from Google Play. There is also a browser version: Tango opens in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox without installing anything. In the browser you can watch and make calls, but you can’t start your own stream.

One thing surprises many people in Europe: on the iPhone, Tango is no longer in the App Store in the EU. Since 2026 the app has been distributed in the EU through the third-party marketplace Onside, which became possible through the Digital Markets Act. So you first have to install that marketplace and then download Tango from there.

What that means in practice

An extra app marketplace on the iPhone is a hurdle many users don’t take — and a point to plan for if you want to bring your audience over from somewhere else. Anyone who is supposed to follow you on iPhone has to install a second app before they can even see your stream.

Coins, gifts and what they cost

The payment model is the usual one for live apps and works in three steps.

Watching is free. Entering rooms, reading along and writing in the chat cost nothing.

Coins are bought through in-app purchase. They are the currency inside the app. You’ll find the package prices directly in the app — they differ by country and platform.

Coins become gifts or call time. Either you send a host a virtual gift in the stream, or you pay for longer and private video calls with them.

Important to know: coins are not a balance you can have paid back out. They are spending inside the app. Only on the host side does something arise that can be converted into money.

Earning money as a host on Tango

Hosts earn through their viewers’ gifts. Streaming itself isn’t paid — what matters is whether there are people in the room who are willing to send something.

On Tango, as on most large international live apps, this is organised through agencies. An agency takes you on, looks after you and receives a share. In practice that also brings targets: hours per month, days per week, sometimes revenue goals. How high these requirements are depends on the agency and is rarely published anywhere.

What we deliberately don’t claim here

Plenty of specific figures circulate online about Tango payouts, diamond rates and minimum amounts. We don’t repeat any of them, because we can’t verify them first-hand and they change regularly. If you want to start with Tango, get the current terms from the agency in writing before you commit.

Where creators hit limits

Tango works for many hosts, and nothing here is meant to claim the opposite. But the reasons creators still start looking around are strikingly similar — and almost none of them has to do with missing features.

Being seen at all

On a platform where people broadcast around the clock in every time zone, a new stream competes with very many others. The first regular viewers are the hardest part.

Rules you can read

A lot runs through the agency rather than through terms you can look up. Anyone who wants to know where they stand has to ask — and gets different answers depending on the agency.

Language and support

The platform is international in outlook. Support in your own language isn’t a given, and the community in your own stream is often mixed-language.

The iPhone hurdle

In the EU, the detour through a third-party marketplace costs reach, because not every potential viewer takes that step.

Alternatives to Tango Live

If you’re looking for alternatives, it’s worth first working out what you’re missing on Tango. After that, the recommendations differ a lot.

A normal installation on iPhone

Any app that sits in the App Store as usual — elPortalO, for example.

What streaming really means

Most guides on the subject start with equipment lists. That’s the wrong start, because technology is the smallest part. Live streaming is first of all: talking, reacting and keeping people company over a longer period — often without anyone answering.

Anyone who expects to have a community after the third stream usually stops after the fourth. Anyone who expects to broadcast for eight weeks to an almost empty room and still enjoy it, stays. It’s the most honest filter there is on this topic.

It’s a conversation, not a show

You don’t have to perform. You have to be reachable. The streams that work are the ones where someone really answers when something appears in the chat.

The first viewers are the hardest

Going from zero to three regulars is harder than going from thirty to a hundred. After that a lot takes care of itself, because a lively room attracts new people.

Time is the real investment

Not money for equipment, but several hours a week over months. If you can’t plan for that, start small instead of quitting big.

Gear: what you need and what you don’t

For getting started a simple order applies: sound before light, light before picture, picture before everything else. A noisy microphone costs you more viewers than mediocre camera quality.

Phone or PC

A current smartphone is entirely enough. Starting on a phone is the most uncomplicated way because you don’t have to set up any software. A PC only pays off once you stream games or want to work with scenes and overlays.

Internet

Upload matters, not download — and above all that it stays stable. Cable is better than Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi better than mobile data. A stream that drops every ten minutes costs you every viewer.

Light

One light source in front of you, not behind you. A window by day or an inexpensive ring light in the evening changes the picture more than any new camera.

Sound

A simple headset or clip-on microphone is the cheapest visible quality jump. The built-in phone microphone works, but picks up half the room.

Mount

A tripod or a clamp. A wobbling picture is tiring after ten minutes, and you have your hands free.

What you don’t need

Green screen, streaming PC, DSLR camera, overlays, alerts, your own logo. All of that comes later, if at all — and none of it gets you the first regular viewer.

Choosing a platform

This is where the decision is made that shapes your first months most. The platforms differ less in features than in how hard it is to be seen at all and from when you may earn something.

Platform type

Fits

Entry hurdle

Twitch

Gaming and long talk streams on PC

To earn you need Affiliate status. As of October 2026 that takes 50 followers, 500 streamed minutes, 7 broadcast days and an average of 3 viewers within 30 days — Twitch can change the values.

YouTube Live

Creators who already upload videos

Live works here mainly when the channel already has reach. As a pure entry point it’s the hardest route.

TikTok Live

Short, spontaneous streams from your phone

Going live is tied to a follower threshold and a minimum age. The exact conditions are in TikTok’s guidelines and change regularly.

International live apps
(Bigo, Tango, SUGO)

Music, talk and entertainment via a gift system

Live immediately, but very many streams at once. Earning mostly runs through agencies with their own targets.

elPortalO

Video and audio streams from your phone, support in English and German

No follower threshold and no waiting period: gifts are possible from the first stream, and payouts start at €25.

In more detail: all live apps on one page — livestreaming app alternatives at a glance.

One note that is rarely written anywhere: you don’t have to decide for ever. Many creators stream on two platforms in parallel and look after three months at where the people stayed.

Finding your topic

The usual advice is to look for a niche with little competition. In practice that leads to people streaming about things that bore them and giving up after six weeks.

The more useful question is: what can you talk about for 90 minutes without preparing? That’s your topic. It’s allowed to be unoriginal — there are thousands of gaming streams and new communities still form every day.

Gaming

The biggest area and correspondingly crowded. Works through your reaction, not your skill.

Music and singing

Sing or DJ live. Watch the music rights — more on that below. Which app types exist for singing is covered in the guide Karaoke app.

Talk

Talking, answering questions, telling about your day. Technically the easiest, in content the most demanding.

Creative

Drawing, crafting, sewing, building. Viewers stay unusually long here because there’s something to see.

Working along

Studying, programming, tidying. Sounds unspectacular and works surprisingly well as a calm companion format.

A mix

Allowed, as long as the tone stays the same. People come because of you, not because of the topic.

The first stream

Set a date and announce it. A specific day and a specific time, posted once beforehand. Without an announcement you’re guaranteed to stream alone.

Test the tech 20 minutes before. Record and listen back to the sound, check the light, have the battery and charging cable ready, mute notifications.

Start with a greeting, even if nobody’s there. Streams are often discovered mid-action. Anyone who only talks once someone’s watching never gets discovered.

Address every viewer directly. Read out the name, welcome them, ask a question. That’s the single most important move in the whole stream.

Stay at least 45 to 60 minutes. Shorter streams are hardly shown by most platforms, and nobody has time to find you.

Afterwards, note for three minutes what went well. Not what went badly — you know that anyway. What went well, you repeat next time.

The first 30 days

In the first four weeks almost everything is decided — not through viewer numbers, but through habits.

Two fixed slots a week. Always the same days, always the same time. Reliability is the only reason anyone comes back.

Don’t stream daily. Sounds counterintuitive, but it prevents the most common reason for quitting: exhaustion in week three.

Cut a short clip from every stream. The clip is the advertising, the stream is the product. A good phone and a free editing app are enough.

Be a real viewer in other streams. Watch, join in, link nothing. Anyone who advertises in other people’s chats gets banned and has gained nothing.

Count regulars, not views. Three people who are there every time are worth more than two hundred who scroll past once.

Earning money: how it really works

On live apps, monetisation almost everywhere follows the same pattern. The differences are in the hurdles before it and the conditions after.

Viewers buy coins. These are in-app purchases. Watching itself costs nothing, and nobody has to buy anything to be there.

Coins become gifts. During the stream viewers send virtual gifts. What each gift is worth is shown in the app.

Gifts collect on your account. At elPortalO without an upstream follower threshold and without a probation period.

You request a payout. At elPortalO from €25. The exact conditions are in the info area, not only on request.

What honestly comes with it

At the start these are small amounts. For the great majority, live streaming is not a replacement for an income but a side earning that grows with the community. Any platform that promises you something different is selling you something.

What’s realistic: that the sum rises over months if you broadcast regularly and the same people come back. What’s not realistic: a plannable monthly income from the first eight weeks.

More detail is in the guide to live stream monetisation.

The most common beginner mistakes

Quitting too early

By far the most common. Most quit in weeks three to five — right before the first regulars form.

Irregularity

Anyone who streams Tuesday one time, Sunday the next and sometimes not at all doesn’t build a habit. Rarer and reliable beats frequent and random.

Broadcasting instead of talking

If something appears in the chat and nobody responds, it’s not a live stream but a video with a delay.

Advertising in other streams

Works nowhere, annoys everyone and leads to bans. Real participation, on the other hand, does bring viewers.

Staring at numbers

Watching the viewer count during the stream makes you insecure and the stream worse. You can evaluate afterwards.

Too much tech too soon

Two weeks of building overlays are two weeks you weren’t live. Broadcast first, beautify later.

Legal basics

This section is orientation, not legal or tax advice, and the rules differ from country to country. As soon as money flows regularly, a conversation with a tax advisor in your country is the cheaper route.

Income is usually taxable. That also applies to gifts and coins that are converted into money, and even when the amounts are small. Depending on volume, a business registration can be required; for small turnovers many countries have simplified small-business rules.

Age limits and youth protection. Every platform sets a minimum age for going live and another for payouts. At elPortalO the conditions are in the terms of use and the community guidelines.

Music and other people’s content. Playing current chart music in the background, streaming movies or series alongside or showing other people’s videos is the quickest route to a ban. Use royalty-free music or music you hold the rights to — especially when you sing or DJ yourself.

Why people look for an alternative

Someone searching for a “Bigo alternative” or a “Tango alternative” usually has a concrete reason. In conversations with streamers the same points come up again and again:

Invisible among the giants

In very large apps a new creator competes with established stars from minute one. Starting without reach, you are rarely discovered there.

Earning only above a threshold

Many platforms unlock monetisation after a certain follower count or number of hours. Until then you stream for nothing.

Language and time zone

An audience watching at three in the morning from another time zone is worth little if you want a crowd that is awake when you are.

Moderation and support

How fast is a report acted on, and who do you talk to when a payout is stuck? That question decides a lot of switches.

Video only, or audio too

Not everyone wants to be on camera. In some apps audio rooms are an afterthought, in others they are a format of their own.

No one to join

Without an agency, a host structure or a fixed group, streaming gets lonely fast – and usually stops again soon after.

The detailed comparisons

For the three most searched apps there are full comparisons – features, differences and an honest note on when the other app stays the better choice.

Bigo Live alternatives

The best-known live app worldwide: an enormous community, and an equally enormous amount of competition. The comparison shows what actually changes when you switch.

Tango Live alternatives

Tango leans heavily on gifting and agency structures. What works similarly at elPortalO and what is deliberately different.

SUGO alternatives

SUGO is known above all for audio rooms. This one covers how audio and video sit together in a single app.

Other apps at a glance

These names turn up constantly when people search for alternatives. The classification is deliberately rough – it is meant to point you in a direction, not to hand out verdicts.

App

What it is known for

What is different at elPortalO

Bigo Live

Very large international live community, battles, gifting

A smaller community in which a new stream is not buried within seconds

Tango Live

Gifting-heavy streaming with pronounced agency structures

Agency and host structures exist too, but earning is not tied to joining one

SUGO

Audio rooms and voice communities

Audio rooms and video streams live in the same app, switching costs no second account

StreamKar

Live streaming with a strong focus on South Asia

Interface and support available in English and German, among 20 languages

Mico

Live streams plus meet-people features

A clear focus on creators and their audience rather than on matching

Likee

Short videos with a live function

Live is not an add-on here, it is the product

Uplive

International live streaming with gifting

Payout rules and the people behind them are written down and reachable

Live.me

Live streaming with talent and event formats

Events and rankings run regularly, and taking part does not require existing reach

YouNow

Interactive live streaming, historically strong with young creators

Monetisation from the first stream instead of after an unlock

Twitch

Desktop gaming streaming with a strong subscription culture

Phone-first: start a stream with no setup, no overlay, no PC

TikTok Live

A live function inside a short-video platform

No prerequisites carried over from a video feed – live stands on its own

Poppo Live

Live streaming with talent and music formats

Talent formats with their own jury and fixed dates

None of these apps is simply “better” or “worse” – they serve different communities. The difference usually only shows once you go live yourself.

What to check before you switch

Look at the home feed before you stream. Which streams are running right now, in which language, at which hour? That says more about a community than any description.

Check when you are allowed to earn. Is there a follower threshold, a minimum number of hours, a mandatory agency?

Read the payout rules. From which amount is a payout made, on what rhythm, through which service?

Test the reporting tools. How easily can you report and block someone, and how quickly does something happen afterwards?

Ask what you can join. Are there agencies, host groups or named contacts – and are they reachable when you need them?

Keep the old account for now. A switch does not have to be a clean break. Plenty of streamers run both for a while.

What elPortalO does differently

Video and audio in one app

Full-screen video streams for performances, gaming and everyday life – and audio rooms for music, talking and long evenings. Both without a second account.

Earning from day one

Viewers send gifts, gifts become coins, coins can be paid out. No follower threshold in front of it.

Agencies and host structures

If you would rather not grow alone, you can join an agency inside the app – voluntarily, not as a condition.

Rankings and events

Daily, weekly and monthly rankings plus rotating events give new creators visibility too.

Verification and moderation

Clear community guidelines, active moderation, reporting and blocking tools and account verification are part of the platform.

Rules you can read

How coins convert, how payouts run, what an agency owes its hosts: the handbooks for hosts, agencies and coin dealers are public in the info area, not handed out on request.

Honestly: when another app is the better fit

elPortalO is a young platform. If you already have a large international fanbase and do not want to rebuild it, one of the established apps is the better place – the audience is already there.

If you work from a desktop with overlays, scenes and streaming software, the gaming platforms give you far more tooling. elPortalO is deliberately a phone app.

And if you are looking for a specific language or country community that is already large somewhere else, stay where it is. An alternative pays off mainly when you are starting fresh, or when you have been getting lost in the crowd so far.

Why people look for a SUGO alternative

Voice apps have a particular appeal: no camera, no lighting, no makeup — just a room and whoever is in it. The reasons hosts still look around are rarely about the audio itself.

Only voice is limiting

Some nights a room is right. Other nights you want to show something — an instrument, a game, a place. Switching apps for that breaks the habit your listeners have.

Being found as a new room

In a large international app a new room sits next to thousands of others. A smaller platform makes those first regular listeners realistic.

Rules you can read

How coins convert, how payouts run, what is allowed in a room: at elPortalO it is written down. The handbooks for hosts, agencies and coin dealers are public in the info area.

Starting without preconditions

No follower threshold, no probation, no minimum hours before gifts are unlocked. Open a room and you can be supported straight away.

Support that answers

When coins, a payout or an account are stuck, you want a person. Support answers in English and German, fastest in-app where your ID and activity are already on file.

Agencies without paperwork

Looking after a group of hosts already? You can open an agency without proof of a registered company — details on the agency page.

Audio rooms in practice

Audio is not a reduced version of video here. It is its own format, with the things that make voice rooms work:

Hosting a room. You open the room, set the topic and decide who gets to speak.

Multi-guest. Several voices at once — for interviews, duets, panels or simply a conversation with more than two people.

Listening without pressure. Not everyone wants to talk. Listeners can simply be there, react and send gifts.

Music and singing. One of the most used cases, and the reason many hosts prefer audio to video in the first place.

Switching to video. When a night calls for it, you go live with the camera in the same app, in front of the same community.

What elPortalO does differently

Audio and video under one roof

No second account, no second app, no splitting your audience across platforms depending on the format of the evening.

You start without paying in advance

No follower count, no trial period, no minimum hours before gifts are unlocked. Install, set up a profile, open a room, and coins can arrive in the first minute.

Payout by written rules

How coins turn into a payout is in the host handbook in the info area — the same for everyone, not negotiated case by case.

Verification and moderation

Account verification, published community guidelines, reporting and blocking tools.
Earning: how it actually works

Listeners buy coins. Coin packs are in-app purchases. Being in a room costs nothing.

Coins become gifts. During a room or a stream, listeners send virtual gifts. Which gift is worth what is shown in the app.

Gifts collect on your account. No threshold has to be crossed first.

You request a payout. Conditions are in the host handbook in the info area, in writing.

The other names you will see

Looking for a SUGO alternative turns up the same handful of apps. A rough orientation, not a verdict:

Bigo Live — the largest live app of the group, video first, enormous international community. Detailed comparison on Bigo Live alternatives.

Tango Live — gifting-driven live streaming with pronounced agency structures. See Tango Live alternatives.

Yalla and similar voice apps — voice rooms with a strong regional focus.

Discord — voice channels for communities, but no gifting economy and no creator payouts.

Twitch — desktop and gaming culture, subscriptions instead of gifts, a different world from phone-first rooms.

Where elPortalO falls short

elPortalO is a young platform. If you already host a large, well-attended room on SUGO, that room does not move with you. The listeners are where they are, and no comparison changes it.

If you are looking for a specific language community that is already big somewhere else, stay there. Voice rooms live on the people in them more than on the software around them.

And if you want party games and the particular room mechanics of a dedicated voice app, elPortalO is a live streaming app with strong audio, not a voice-games platform. A move makes most sense when you are starting out, when you want both formats in one place, or when you have been invisible in the big apps so far.

Switching in four steps

Install from the official stores. Links are on the download page. No APK files from third-party sources.

Fill in your profile properly. Name, picture, short description — even for audio, people check who they are listening to.

Complete verification. Done once, and there is no waiting later when a payout is due. Details under verification and safety.

Announce your first room. Tell your existing community when and where you will be live. Without notice, nobody finds you there.

Running both apps in parallel for a while is not a contradiction. Many hosts do exactly that until they can tell where their people respond better.

Why streamers look for a Tango alternative

Tango is one of the large international live apps and it works for a lot of hosts. Nothing here pretends otherwise. But the reasons creators start looking elsewhere are remarkably consistent, and almost none of them are about missing features.

Being seen at all

On a platform with hosts live in every timezone at once, a new stream competes with an enormous number of others. The first regular viewers are the hardest part, and a smaller platform makes that first step easier.

Rules you can read

How coins work, how payouts run and what is allowed on stream is written down at elPortalO. The handbooks for hosts, agencies and coin dealers are public in the info area, not handed out on request.

Starting without preconditions

No follower threshold, no probation period, no minimum stream hours before gifts are unlocked. You go live and you can be supported from minute one.

Support that answers

When your account, your coins or a payout is stuck, you want a person, not a loop. Support answers in English and German, fastest through the in-app support where your ID and activity are already on file.

Audio as a real format

Not everyone wants to be on camera every night. Audio-only rooms are a format of their own here, not a side feature.

Agencies without paperwork

If you already look after a team of hosts, you can open your own agency without providing proof of a registered company. Conditions are on the agency page.

Tango and elPortalO side by side

This table does not compare brand against brand but two situations: a large, internationally grown live app such as Tango, Bigo Live or SUGO on one side, and elPortalO on the other. Functionally much of it sits close together. The differences are in everything around the features.

What elPortalO does differently

You start without paying in advance

Many platforms want a follower count, a trial period or a minimum number of streaming hours before you may receive gifts at all. That falls away here. Install the app, set up a profile, go live, and coins can arrive in the first minute.

Payout by written rules

How coins turn into a payout is described in the host handbook, not negotiated case by case. The documents sit together in the info area, alongside the target list and the handbook for official coin dealers.

Agencies without company proof

Already managing hosts? You can open an agency without a business registration certificate. Requirements and process are on the agency page.

Verification and moderation

Account verification, clear community guidelines, reporting and blocking tools. What happens to content that breaks the rules is stated, not improvised — see verification and safety.

The formats you can stream

Coming from Tango you know the principle already. Still worth a look at what elPortalO actually supports, because not every alternative brings all the formats with it.

Video live streams

The classic case: camera on, viewers comment in real time and send gifts.

Audio rooms

Streaming without camera — for talk, music, gaming commentary, or simply the days when video does not fit.

Multi-guest

Several participants in one stream. Useful for interviews, duets, co-hosting and anything that works better with more than one voice.

Live battles

Two creators go head to head and their viewers decide with gifts. The format most hosts coming from the big apps already know.

Earning: how it actually works

Viewers buy coins. Coin packs are in-app purchases. Watching costs nothing, and nobody has to buy anything to be in a room.

Coins become gifts. During a stream viewers send virtual gifts. Which gift is worth what is shown in the app.

Gifts collect on your account. No threshold has to be crossed first and no probation period runs in the background.

You request a payout. The conditions are in the host handbook in the info area, in writing and the same for everyone.

The other names you will see

Searching for a Tango alternative turns up the same handful of apps every time. A rough orientation, not a verdict:

Bigo Live — the largest of the group, huge international community, correspondingly hard to be noticed as a newcomer. The detailed comparison is on Bigo Live alternatives.

SUGO — known for audio rooms and voice communities rather than video.

StreamKar — live streaming with a strong focus on South Asia.

Likee — short-form video first, live as an added function.

Twitch — desktop and gaming culture, overlays and subscriptions, a different world from phone-first live.

TikTok Live — live inside a short-video platform, with the reach and the conditions that come with it.

Where elPortalO falls short

elPortalO is a young platform. If you already have a large international following on Tango and do not want to rebuild it, one of the established apps is the better place — the audience is already there, and no comparison table changes that.

If you work from a desktop with overlays, scenes and streaming software, the gaming platforms give you more tools. elPortalO is deliberately a phone-first app.

And if your community sits in a specific country or language group that is already large somewhere else, stay where they are. A move pays off mainly when you are starting out, when you want a smaller room to be seen in, or when you have been invisible in the big apps so far.

Switching in four steps

Install from the official stores. Links are on the download page. No APK files from third-party sources.

Fill in your profile properly. Name, picture, short description. People who look like a real person get watched.

Complete verification. Done once, and there is no waiting time later when a payout is due. Details under verification and safety.

Announce your first stream. Tell your existing community when and where you will be live. Without notice, nobody finds you there.

Keeping your Tango account for a while is not a contradiction. Many hosts run both in parallel until they can tell where the audience fits better.

An honest note up front

elPortalO is our own platform — you should know that while reading. So this is not a comparison in which we win at everything. About Bigo Live and TikTok Live we only write what is generally known; the exact conditions change constantly and are set out in their own guidelines. What you get here is a decision aid, not an advertising brochure.

This comparison names six criteria by which platforms really differ — and says openly for each where elPortalO stands, including where we aren’t ahead.

Live streaming app comparison: what matters when you switch

When are you allowed to earn at all?
The most important difference for beginners. Big platforms often tie monetisation to conditions — follower counts, streaming hours, waiting periods. Anyone who starts small often streams there for months for nothing.

At elPortalO: you can receive gifts from the first stream. There is no follower threshold and no waiting period.

Do you understand what you earn?
Virtual currencies are rarely self-explanatory. What matters is whether you can follow what a gift is worth, what of it reaches you and when you are paid out.

At elPortalO: coins are bought in the official shop and credited automatically to the verified elPortalO ID. Every top-up stays documented and traceable.

Does the format fit what you do?
Not everyone wants to sit in front of a camera. Some formats live on conversation, music or pure voice — that needs audio rooms and multi-guest functions, not just classic video.

At elPortalO: video, audio and talk formats with several guests are possible in the same app.

Can you build a team?
Anyone thinking beyond the solo stream needs agency structures: looking after your own hosts, developing talent, growing together. On many platforms that is tied to formal proof.

At elPortalO: for an agency you need five people on the team and an ID for verification — no company, trade or commercial register proof.

Do you get help when something sticks?
With problems around payouts, bans or verification, it becomes clear how seriously a platform takes you. Anonymous ticket systems in a foreign language are for many the real point of frustration.

At elPortalO: support in English and German, directly in the app. The interface is available in 20 languages.

How safe do you feel in the stream?
Verification, clear guidelines and working moderation decide who you meet in the stream — and whether you dare to go live regularly.

At elPortalO: creators verify as a real person, a minimum age of 18 applies, and reports are handled with feedback.

Where elPortalO is not the best choice

No comparison is worth much if it only knows one direction. These points speak against us — and you should know them before you switch. We’d rather say them ourselves than have you notice them after two weeks.

What you won’t get with us

Reach at the push of a button. Bigo Live and TikTok have an audience of millions. We are considerably smaller — anyone expecting thousands of viewers immediately will be disappointed.

An algorithm that carries you. On TikTok a single video can change everything. That chance of luck doesn’t exist with us.

Processes tested for years. We keep developing. That also means there may be corners that have long run smoothly on established platforms.

A ready-made community waiting for you. Anyone who starts with us helps build it — that’s opportunity and work at once.

Who suits what

Sorted honestly — even when the answer sometimes goes against us.

🔮 You want maximum reach

Then there’s hardly a way around the big platforms. But expect monetisation there to hang on conditions and you to be one among many.

🌱 You want to earn from the start

Then a platform without entry hurdles makes more sense — even if the audience is smaller. That’s exactly what we built elPortalO for.

🤝 You want to build a team

Then pay attention to the agency conditions. Where proof of a business is demanded, many fail before they start.

🎤 You do audio or talk

Then check whether the platform can do more than video. Audio-only rooms and multi-guest formats are far from provided everywhere.

💬 Support in your language matters

Then look at which language you actually get an answer in when your account is banned. You only notice when it counts.

⚖ You already stream successfully

Then don’t switch completely, test in parallel. Your existing community is too valuable for going it alone.

Questions about switching platforms

<details>
Can I stream on several platforms at once?

Broadcasting on several platforms at the same time is restricted in the terms of many providers — please check the guidelines of each platform. Streaming one after the other and trying both is unproblematic, and the more sensible route to begin with.
</details>
<details>
Do I take my followers with me when I switch?

No. Followers can’t be transferred between platforms. What you take with you is your routine, your format and the people who follow you on social media. That’s why a parallel test is usually better than a hard cut.
</details>
<details>
What does elPortalO cost me?

Nothing. The app is free for iOS and Android, and so are registration and streaming. Only viewers who want to support you buy coins — voluntarily.
</details>
<details>
Do I need a business registration to stream on elPortalO?

Not to stream. For your own agency you need five people on the team and an ID for verification, but no company or trade proof. Whether income has to be declared for tax depends on your personal situation and country — please clarify that with your tax advisor.
</details>
<details>
From what age may I take part?

Using elPortalO is reserved for people aged 18 and over. Details are in our terms and conditions.
</details>
<details>
What happens to my coins if I stop?

Purchased coins are valid without limit as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, unused coins and diamonds expire. Everything else is in the refund policy.
</details>
<details>
Which app wins the live streaming app comparison?

That depends on what matters to you. Anyone seeking maximum reach is right with Bigo Live or TikTok Live. Anyone looking for fair conditions without a follower hurdle, without minimum streaming hours and with support in English and German will find a fitting alternative in elPortalO.
</details>
<details>
Where can I download elPortalO?

elPortalO is free on Google Play for Android and in the Apple App Store for iPhone. All links are on the download page.
</details>
